Dave Nuftul ~ Guitars / Bass / Lap Steel / Ukulele / Harmonica
Dave Nuftul has been teaching at Montrose Music for the past 5 years, since our inception!
He has extensive teaching and performing experience on guitar, lap steel, bass guitar and harmonica, in all styles and genres, and teaches students of all ages and abilities. Dave’s background includes experience as a performing and recording guitarist in Chicago, as well as owning his own music store in Arizona. Dave has been playing guitar for over 50 years, and is available to teach acoustic and electric guitars, bass, lap steel, harmonica and ukulele.
Drew Murdza ~ Mandolin / Violin / Fiddle / Viola / Cello
Drew Murzda started playing the Violin in 1982 in public school orchestra programs, along with private lessons. Drew holds a BA in Music Education from Western State College. Drew has taught Suzuki programs at the Slate River School in Crested Butte, and was the director of the Crested Butte Community School Strings program, and has been teaching private lessons since 1995. Drew has performed with his bluegrass band, Simpler Times, and is also a member of the Gypsy Jazz Social Club, playing mandolin and fiddle in both, and has toured nationally with Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon. He is also a member of the Western State Symphony, He founded the Gunny Grass bluegrass festival, and recently started a string program at the Gunnison Arts Center called the “Gunnison Valley Youth Fiddlers”. Drew is currently accepting beginning through advanced students on Violin, Viola, Cello and Mandolin.
Joanna Metcalf ~ Piano / Saxophone
Joanna Metcalf started studying Piano and Saxophone at 8 years of age, and after 24 years of Piano study, earned her BA in Music Education from New York University, and has performed at Carnegie Music Hall in New York City. She had been a piano instructor in Denver, while still studying and performing, at the Denver Piano Conservatory. She has also been a Pre-school teacher in the Denver area. Joanna emphasizes music theory and performance in her piano classes, providing students of all ages and abilities wholesome understanding of general music foundations, so that the student can take this background and apply it to any musical situation in the future.
Ken Crombie ~ Drums / All Percussion
Ken Crombie, in addition to being the owner of Montrose Music, is a retired MS/HS Band Director in CO for over 20 years. Ken has a performance degree from Berklee College of Music, as well as a Music Education degree from Metro State College in Denver, CO. In addition, Ken has extensive studio and live performance experience in Boston, NYC, Los Angeles, Houston and Denver throughout the past 35 years. He is well versed in all styles and genres of music on drum set as well as orchestral and world percussion.
